Food

What is food?

Food is what we eat.

We eat food to grow strong and healthy.
Food gives us the energy to work and play.
We get food from plants and animals.

Some of the foods we eat are meat, maize, beans, cabbage, pineapple, potatoes, chicken, milk, and groundnuts.

Meat of a pig is called pork.

Some foods can be eaten without cooking. These are sweet potatoes, sugarcane and some vegetables e.g. carrots, onions, tomatoes.

Other foods must be cooked before being eaten to make them soft. These are meat, maize, beans, peas, arrow roots, fish and chapatti

Cabbage, tomatoes, capsicum, carrots and onions can be eaten raw or when cooked.

In the morning we take breakfast.
At noon, we take lunch.
In the evening we eat supper.

All fruits must be washed before eating.

Foods that come from plants include bread, chapatti, vegetables (Kale, cabbage, spinach, carrots, tomatoes, eggplant, capsicum), ugali and fruits.
