Discount

Discount is the difference between the marked price and the selling price.

Example

A discount of Sh 5,200 was allowed on the marked price of a photocopier.

The photocopier was sold at Sh 46,800.

What was the percentage discount?

Solution

Marked price = discount + sale price

= Sh 5,200 + Sh 46,800

= Sh 52,000

= (5,200 / 52,000) X 100

= 10%
