Physically impaired

  • In our society there are people who are physically challenged.
  • These are people who have either lost their arms or legs, have one leg shorter than the other, or have legs that may not be strong enough to support them when they walk.
  • This kind of challenge may arise as a result of sickness, an accident or at birth.
  • There are a number of schools for the physically impaired such as Joy Town in Thika and Masaku in Machakos.
  • In Acts 3:1-10 we are told of how Peter and John, as they were going to the temple for prayers, met a man who was physically challenged.

  • This man had been lame all his life. People would carry him to the gates of the temple so that he could beg for money.
  • When Peter and John were going in, the man begged for money. They told him they had no silver or gold, but would instead give him what they had; faith in Christ’s ability to heal.
  • They prayed for him and he was healed.
  • He went with them into the temple walking and leaping and praising God.

  • From this story we learn that:

  1. By faith we can pray for the healing of others just as Peter and John did.
  2. We can also help the physically challenged by pushing their wheelchairs.
  3. Christians can buy equipment for them like crutches and artificial legs.
  4. We can pay school fees for the physically challenged children who are in school.
  5. We should offer guidance and counselling services to help them cope and give them hope.
  6. Christians can employ them and enable them to make a living.
  7. One can help them start income-generating projects.
