Eternal life

Eternal life is life that has a beginning, but no end. We get eternal life when we believe in Jesus Christ (John 6:47)

  • Jesus is the giver of eternal life because He defeated death when He resurrected.

Eternal life as a way of:

Holiness

  • We live holy lives when we avoid all evil.
  • We should obey all the commandments of God.
  • Being holy means being separate from all that is evil.
  • God expects us to be holy for He is holy.

Faith

  • Faith is believing and trusting that everything is possible with God.
  • Jesus tells us that if we have faith, we can move mountains (Mark 11: 22-24).
  • Living the life of faith means relying on God’s promises and surrendering our lives to Him.

Joy

  • When we acknowledge God at all times, our lives become filled with joy.
  • Joy is one of the fruits of the Holy Spirit.
  • If we know that we have eternal life in heaven then we have joy, no matter the trials on earth.
  • (Philippians 4:4-6) says that we should rejoice in the Lord always.

Hope

  • Hope is the expectation and desire to do something or get something.
  • As Christians we should hope to have eternal life in heaven (1 Thessalonians 4: 13-18 )
  • Christians hope and believe in the promise of eternal life in paradise.

This is expressed in the Apostles Creed: I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth: and in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and buried, He desce- nded into hell; The third day He rose again from the dead, He ascended into heaven, and sits on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; From thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit; The holy catholic Church; The communion of saints; The forgiveness of sins; The resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

Love

  • (John 3:16) talks of God’s everlasting love for us. It is demonstrated in the death and resurrection of Jesus through which our sins are forgiven.
  • The love that Jesus had for humankind made Him obey His Father’s will and accept to die on the cross.
  • Love is one of the fruits of the Holy Spirit.
  • It makes us children of God and it never ends.

Justice

  • Justice is the treatment of people in a way that is fair and right.
  • God wants us to treat all people fairly. Justice should be exercised in the community, at home, at work, in court and in school.
  • We should not overwork those who help us with our chores, especially the house helps.

Living forever in love

( John 14:1 - 4, 18 - 21 )

  • Love is a mystery that can only be understood by those who share in it.
  • If one does not love, then one does not know God for God is love.
  • Because of His love, Jesus said that He was going to heaven to prepare a place for us.
  • Jesus loved us even before we loved Him. He agreed to give His life in order to save ours before we even knew Him.
  • Christians demonstrate love when they help those who are in need.
