• Addition means putting of two or more numbers or objects together to make a new total

• The grasshoppers are being added

• 4 grasshoppers plus 6 grasshoppers gives 10

• 4 and 6 are called addends

• 10 is called sum

• 10 is the new total of the grasshoppers
