Soil is formed when rocks breakdown gradually into smaller particles over a long period of time.

This process is also called Weathering.

Just like water, soil is found almost everywhere.

We can touch soil and determine its texture, draw on it and even use it to fill up empty containers.

Soil can be grouped into three major types depending on the size of particles and the texture of the soil.

The three types of soil are clay, loam and sand soil.

1. Clay soil

• This type of soil is made up of very fine particles.
• It is smooth and slippery or sticky when wet.
• Clay soil contains very little air in it due to its fine particles.
• It has smaller air spaces

2. Sand soil

• This type of soil has larger particles.
• It is gritty and coarse (rough).
• Sand soil is light and has a lot of air in it.

3. Loam soil

• It is a type of soil that is good for growing plants.
• It's a soil containing a relatively equal mixture of sand and silt and a somewhat smaller proportion of clay,and organic matter.
