African Socialism

This is a national philosophy of many countries. It is based on the principle of treating other people like sisters and brothers. It is also based on the principle of sharing our resources with those in need within the community. This philosophy is greatly influenced by traditional African values.

African socialism was greatly influenced by colonisation and the coming of the European culture. This changed the African way of life and made some people to adopt foreign ways of life. The basic principles of African Socialism include:

  • Political equality for all
  • Equal opportunities for all
  • Fair distribution of national wealth
  • Freedom from economic exploitation
  • Shared responsibility in national development
