Word problems

In this section, you will be presented with situations which require that you work your way to the answers step by step.

You will need a pencil and rough paper for trial and error before you find the solution. If you think through the situations carefully, you should arrive at your answers without too many problems. Work patiently and carefully through each situation. There may be more than one solution to a given problem and it will be worth your while to try alternative solutions before you settle down to a final answer.

In each of the following, remove one letter from the word in CAPITAL letters. Then from the alternatives given, choose the word that is most closely related to the word you have made.
Example: FLAME

When you remove the letter F from the word FLAME, you are left with the word LAME. From the alternatives given, ‘crippled’ is the closest in meaning to LAME. Therefore, the answer is A.
